Taylor Swift was a rarity in the world of pop music: she was the only superstar to have crossed from country into the mainstream and then to be an international icon of pop culture. Swift is shedding her country roots as if it were a second-skin, showing herself to be the most savvy pop singer/songwriter of her time. She has the ability to harness the current zeitgeist and make it her own. The skills she displayed could be seen in her first tracks, including the Neodue Tim McGraw. But on her sophomore album Fearless released in 2008 Swift discovered the person she was and reach a wide audience. Fearless was a big hit not only in America which is where it's Top Ten singles Love Story, and You Belong with Me helped it to break six platinum records but also around the world. It was a huge success throughout Canada Australia as well as the U.K. Swift was able to consolidate her success with Speak Now almost two year later. Her popularity only increased through her subsequent three albums -- Red (2012) 1989 (2014), and Reputation (2017) -- and saw her move confidently into a realm of pop music in which she was already a part. Her name was always on top of the charts even after she changed her style with her sibling albums, folklore and Evermore in 2020.
