Madekwe was raised in an ethnically mixed family. The father of her is Nigerian and Swiss, while the mother of her is English. She was raised on the south London Council Estate and went to The Brit School aged 14. At the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is where she earned a BA degree in acting.
